Why Vaaranam Aayiram disappointed me

I was fascinated by the posters of Vaaranam Aayiram depicting Surya Sivakumar in various physiques and decided to see the movie. But I was disappointed because Gautham Menon,the creator of good movies like Kaaka Kaaka, failed to make the film upto the mark this time. 

Vaaranam Aayiram is all about relationship between father and son (both played by Surya). Talking about the good part of it, the film has good music by Harris Jayaraj and good looking female artists like Sameera Reddy, Simran Bagga and Divya Spandana as the heroines, and of course, the six packs of Surya that urged his female fans to scream in the theatre. But alas! the plot din't work out well. The film starts with death of Krishnan( the father) and Surya is informed of his death. On hearing his father's death, Surya's eyes get dwelled with tears and he remembers the memorable moments in his life with his father. The rest of the film is just the flashback and the film ends with the funeral of Krishnan and the family members return satisfied.

Truely speaking, the plot was just okay. It could have been delivered in a better fashion. For instance, the first-sight love of Surya for Meghna(Sameera Reddy), that too while seeing her in the same compartment on the train is too hard to digest. Worser is the part of the story when Surya(who seems to be a lazy guy playing his guitar and showing a very low accademic performance) takes up a really big project and mints money to go to America just to meet Meghna. 

It's so unfortunate that the film had so much exaggerations on teenage-love. On the whole, the story lacked better finishing. On my part, I believe that the only things praiseworthy in the film was Harris Jayaraj's music and of course, Surya's workout to deliver full justice to the roles. Its said that he had a diet of only fruit juice for a month to transform himself to the 17-year old chap looks in the film. But after seeing the film, I was thinking why the poor guy took so much effort for the film?
